Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid are a power couple: one brightens, the other hydrates. But to get the most out of both, order matters. Here’s exactly how to layer them — and why combining them in one product makes life easier.

Can you use vitamin C and hyaluronic acid together?

Yes — and you should. Vitamin C delivers antioxidant brightening while hyaluronic acid floods skin with moisture and plumps fine lines. They have no conflict, and the hydration from HA can make vitamin C feel more comfortable on the skin. (See our full vitamin C and hyaluronic acid guides.)

The correct order

The skincare rule of thumb is thinnest to thickest, applied to clean skin:

  1. Cleanse — start with a fresh, dry (or slightly damp) face.
  2. Vitamin C — apply first, on clean skin, so the active absorbs without interference.
  3. Hyaluronic acid — layer next; for best results apply it to slightly damp skin so it has water to bind to.
  4. Moisturizer — seal everything in so the hydration HA attracts doesn’t evaporate.
  5. SPF (AM only) — always finish your morning routine with sunscreen.

Shortcut: Glow Serum blends vitamin C and hyaluronic acid in the correct ratio, so steps 2–3 become one easy step.

Morning or night?

  • Vitamin C → morning. Its antioxidant protection is most useful during the day and gives your SPF a boost.
  • Hyaluronic acid → AM and PM. It’s gentle enough for twice-daily use.

So a simple, effective routine looks like: AM = cleanse → Glow Serum (C + HA) → moisturizer → SPF. PM = cleanse → hydrate → moisturizer.

Common layering mistakes

  • Applying HA to bone-dry skin. Without surrounding moisture it can pull water from your skin. Apply to damp skin and seal with cream.
  • Skipping SPF after vitamin C. Brightening progress fades fast under unprotected sun exposure.
  • Using too many actives at once. Keep it simple — C + HA + SPF is a complete, effective glow routine.
